People have been talking about all kind of rumors. The most popular rumors are the one that say that the new Macbook Pro is coming tomorrow… or next week… or…
I think this is wishful thinking. The Macbook Air has just been announced at Macworld and is just now shipping. Apple wouldn’t want to jeopardize the sales of the Macbook Air with the release of another Macbook with multi-touch controls.
This is my take:

This is my take:
- The earliest date would be in April, around or at the NAB show. We would get Penryn processors.
- The next date would be in June, at the WWDC. We should expect Penryn processors and some other hardware upgrades.
- If apple decides to skip Penryn, which is very unlikely, we’d have to wait until a special event at the end of 2008 or until Macworld in January 2009…This might be outrageous but we would be rewarded with a total redesign and the new Nehalem microarchitecture, which should be a big step forward.
The later the Macbook Pro will be upgraded, the more likely it is that there will be a total redesign with all kinds of upgrades like a new graphic card or more standard ram,… Whenever it will be, whether it’s tomorrow or next year, the none Macbook Air/iPhone owners will finally have multi-touch.
…

Bugger! I only just got mine…..bang goes my smugness quotient!
I love my MacBook Pro. But…. always looking for the next best thing. Sigh. I can’t afford to indulge my passion for all things Mac.
Argh. Apple needs to cut it out with the planned obsolescent crap. Makes them money but makes its customers mad.
Apple pulled out of NAB.
Conor, all computers are planned to be obsolete. That’s how technology works. Not just Apple.
In my experience, Apple computers last 2-3 times longer than Windows based machines before they are obsolete. Additionally, obsolete Macs are still very useful. Not so in the Windows world.
hey,
just a comment: everything in your life will always be replaced by something ‘better’, especially technology. do yourselves a big favor and learn to be happy with what you have. in the end, all that matters is that your computer does what you bought it for with the responsiveness you need.
if you keep chasing after the best thing available, you will never have money for the important things. whether your computer has a unibody or not, if you don’t pay $3000 every 18 months for a new computer you can, for example, travel to any place in the world at least once every two years.
i looove my computers and it took me a long time to figure this out, but all you young ones: don’t play catch up with the jones’ because the jones’ just don’t care what kind of phone you have or shoes or whatever.
happiness is what is important and believe it or not, people were happy before there were computers.
